1.) What was one take away that you learned from working in FYE?
It's important to be persistent and consistent when talking to students since they may not be available to always talk with you. The result is so worth it to be persistent in reaching out to them.
2.) How is your experience in FYE preparing you for your first job after Salem State?
Every institution is different and you won't always know exactly what to do, and working in FYE has pushed me to be more comfortable without explicit direction and to take the initiative to think critically and make decisions.
3.)What is your favorite memory/the best part of working in FYE thus far?
I love the memories I have made when working with the other grads, but I would say that my favorite memory is seeing the Majors/Minors Fair come together. The space looked amazing and it was great to watch the students pour in.
4.) What is one piece of advice you would like to give a first year graduate student who is about to start their Graduate retention fellow in FYE?
You will make mistakes, but it's important to forgive yourself and use those moments as opportunities for learning and growth; but you have to make sure you hold yourself accountable to that growth.
